Questions to ask before hiring a designer.
What are the advantages of hiring a designer?
A good design & designer can save you time and money and can ensure that you get exactly what you want. Your home is your biggest investment . It is essential before you get started on any home project that you know all your options and that you have a firm design plan before you begin. A good set of plans can also make your general constractor's job easier by having everything laid out and selected ahead of time and will ensure that you get a more accurate bid in the end.
What range of services do you provide?
We provide a full range of architectural and interior design services. Our services include, but are not limited to plan documentation, 3-D rendering, permitting assistance, project management and all aspects of interior design. The scope of services we provide are dependent on the scale of your project and your own individual needs.
Do you give free estimates?
Yes, we offer a free design consultation for every potential client. At this meeting we will come to your home and discuss your project and try to answer many of your initial questions with rough estimates on time, labor, budget and feasibility. We have found that this meeting is an excellent opportunity for you to see our portfolio of work and finished 3-D renderings of our drawings. Please give us a call to set up an in-home design consultation.
What are the steps in a typical design project?
We like to start with a in-home design consultation. At this meeting we will review your project and go over some of your options. We also like to give you a chance to meet with one of designers face to face and review our portfolio our contract.
Once you retain our services we will come back to your home and complete a site measurement and develop an existing design for your home. We believe that any successful design is a collaborative process and at this meeting we like to discuss your vision of the project. It is helpful if you have an idea of “must have” elements as well as elements that are flexible. From this conversation we will develop what we call an “Option Design Package.” The Option Design Package is simply a first stab at your design. You will have 2 or 3 different design options in this package that could work given your vision and your needs.
The next step is a second meeting to review the Option Design Package and finalize your design. Because we use full 3-D rendering software you will be able to do a virtual walk through your project and see your project as it will actually look upon completion.
With your approval of final design elements we will complete set of construction documents and include any engineering that may be necessary for permitting.
Once construction documents are complete we can help you through permitting, contractor interviews, bidding, construction management, interior design. We can also help with fixture, finishes and appliance selection.
We are your ally during design and your advocate during construction.
What is the typical turn around time from design to construction?
Each project is unique and is generally dependent on the client. It is difficult to give an estimate on turn around time without first meeting you and seeing your project. We work hard to complete the design of your project in a timely manner and can give you an estimate on the completion of your design after our initial meeting. Be aware, there are outside factors that can effect the turn around time on the construction end of your project after your design is completed. They can include: permitting, engineering, surveying, contractor availability, and of course, weather.
